Individuals generally are given anesthesia for the fat transfer portion of the surgery. In total, the surgery takes around two to three hours, and the patient can go home the same day. The surgery takes longer for patients who require the removal and reinsertion of a large quantity of fat.
First, liposuction is performed in a targeted area to remove fat. Typically, the patient chooses either the hips, abdomen, lower back, or thighs. After the fat is extracted, it’s purified in a sterile centrifuge system. After this, the harvested fat is placed into syringes.
The last step is to inject the healthy, processed fat in layers into the butt. The injection site is massaged to make sure the surface remains even and smooth. This last step is repeated until the desired shape is attained.
Patients can expect to see some swelling and bruising around both the liposuction area and the injection sites. Individuals can use over-the-counter pain medication for pain management. Patients will need to wear a compression garment over the liposuction site(s).
During the first two weeks post-surgery, it is essential to avoid putting a lot of weight on the buttocks. Individuals can usually return to vigorous exercise approximately six to eight weeks after the procedure, once the fat cells have stabilized and the swelling has subsided.
It can take up to four to six weeks to see the full results of the Brazilian Butt Lift. When the results are fully realized, the patient will have a shapelier and more rounded backside. Additionally, they should feel firmer in the areas where liposuction was performed.
You will be required to wear special compression garments for at least two weeks to support and reduce bruising, pain, and swelling. The garment also protects the region while it heals and makes you feel more comfortable. You might want to wear loose clothes over the compression garments.
After undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift, avoid wearing tight underwear or jeans for at least two months. Wearing clothes made from a soft and breathable material and maintaining high hygienic standards (to prevent infections) are highly recommended.
You are advised to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks until your surgeon gives you the go-ahead. The transferred fat requires sufficient time to settle within the tissues, and prolonged periods of sitting can disrupt this process. Instead, lie down on your side or stand. You can purchase specialized Brazilian Butt Lift pillows that divert pressure while sitting. Women also find that sitting on boppy pillows (for nursing) is helpful during recovery.
The goal is to minimize pressure on the buttocks to accelerate the healing process and promote better results. Because you cannot avoid all activities that require you to sit (such as using the bathroom), limit the amount of time spent sitting.

While sleeping on your back does not put as much pressure on the butt as sitting does, you should avoid it for the first six weeks. Instead, lie on your stomach or sides. Before you start lying on your back, talk with Dr. Gonzalez, as recovery varies from one patient to another. Some people take longer than others to heal.
The grafted cells need a lot of energy to survive. You will need to eat more nutritious foods and stay hydrated. You may also want to increase your intake of healthy fats by consuming foods such as avocados, salmon, walnuts, grass-fed butter, coconut oil, and extra-virgin olive oil.
High-impact exercises and activities should be avoided for the first six to eight weeks. Strenuous activities burn more calories and fat, including the grafted ones. It is, therefore, important to give the cells adequate time to settle within the tissues and establish a sustainable blood supply.
