Liposuction (Liposculpture)

While sticking to a healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen are the best ways to lose weight, many people just can't seem to eliminate fat pockets and cells from problem areas. This is particularly true for the legs, buttocks, hips, stomach, arms, chin, neck and ankles. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that targets these problem areas and leaves your body looking more sculpted and toned.

There are various liposuction techniques to choose from, including ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), power-assisted liposuction (PAL), tumescent liposuction and super-wet liposuction. Despite careful dieting and diligent exercise programs, some patients are unable to eliminate localized deposits of fat in the body. Common problem areas include the inner and outer thighs, calves, knees, hips, abdomen, upper arms, neck, and cheeks.

At our practice in Orlando, liposuction may be used to create a more shapely, defined, and proportionate appearance. Liposuction begins with a small incision in the area to be treated. Next a thin, hollow tube is inserted into the incision and fat cells are vacuumed out and discarded. Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis under anesthesia and can last two or more hours depending on the number of sites treated. Common side effects include temporary bruising, numbness, soreness and burning sensations, but most of these will subside within one to two weeks. Once the area has healed the patient should notice a firmer, tighter physique.

Liposuction can be an ideal option for patients concerned with scarring. For even more dramatic results, some patients at our practice choose to combine tummy tuck and liposuction procedures. Dr. Gonzalez can work with you to determine if this method will help you achieve your personal goals and develop a treatment tailored to your specific needs.
